El Centro de Estudiantes High School incorporates programs for students that allow them to gain 21st Century workforce readiness skills through first-hand experience. Our proven approach begins with Real World Learning and continues with Learning Through Internships.
Real World Learning lays a foundation for El Centro students to discover their passions and career interests during their Gateway Cohort and 201. The program includes service-learning experiences, interfacing with local professionals, and a personal portfolio that includes a resume, cover letter, elevator pitch, references, and interest inventory to demonstrate work preparedness.
For students in 301 and 401, Learning Through Internships teaches workforce readiness in real-life work settings. Students attend an internship one to two days per week, develop projects with their advisor and mentor, and prepare a presentation at the end of the semester. Recent internships have included the Energy Coordinating Agency, Temple University Hospital, The Kroc Center, The Soup Kitchen, and Metro PCS.
Big Picture Philadelphia is always seeking partner organizations and businesses to serve as volunteer mentors and host-sites for student internships. If you or your business are interested in joining us, learn more
